Linda Renaud is a second-career artist. She was getting serious about painting full time when a bout with breast cancer did two things – she became the “artist-in-residence” on the chemo ward, and it made her serious about being an artist. Linda has painted in wax batik ever since.
Watercolor wax batik paintings are typically painted on cloud unryu paper. A significant amount of work goes into the paintings before they ever see a paint brush. Value shapes are identified and the entire composition is color-coded as to when and where the wax will be applied. The paintings are then built with alternating layers of wax and watercolor paint - progressing from the lightest to the darkest values. After the painting is batiked, the wax is ironed out and the painting is mounted on watercolor paper to give it added support. Batik paintings combine blended washes of color with hard-edged abstracted shapes, yielding truly unique works of art. |
