. . . Every painting is an experiment to see how far I can take the medium
Hyperrealism is a genre of painting and sculpture in which the work resembles a photograph in high resolution, although it does not imply that it is a copy of the photograph.
Early in my career, I experimented with a litany of mediums, graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, oils and finally acrylics. For me, acrylics gave me supreme color saturation and flexibility along with almost no drying time when aided with a hair dryer. I found amazing results with multiple layers of color. Every painting is an experiment to see how far I can take the medium. I rely on photographs, pencil drawings and subject studies, along with a multitude of imagery that comes from my imagination to craft each painting. The result is never from one source. My subjects are basically two very distinct themes: landscapes and automobiles. I find beauty and wonder within both subjects. I am a true outdoors person who loves to hike, ski, bicycle and camp. I am also a gear-head having restored several cars over the years and cannot wait to jump on my motorcycle and ride for days! This is what drives me! With each painting, I am continually refining and improving my process, my point of view, my wonder and excitement, going beyond former achievements and having each work take on a life of its own. |
