. . . in the late ‘70s; I became a wildling, untamed and free. |
Since I was a child, I have always been infinitely curious about the world around me. Left to my own devices, I set out on endless explorations of my surrounding environment, knocking around the foothills and streets of Boulder, CO in the late ‘70s; I became a wildling, untamed and free.
While experiencing the ubiquitous pathos that is inexpugnable from the human condition, I’ve sought to find answers and understanding of why life is so filled with suffering and unhappiness, and through my photographs add lightness and joy to life. Using historic and analog techniques, (such as creating with film, pinholes, and making wetplate collodion tintypes,) the process of creation is slowed down, requiring me to focus on the moment and experience the process with reverence. This way of working is by part in defiance against today’s multitudinous glut of imagery and the daily barrage of dashed off iPhone photographs; each garnering only a brief millisecond of regard. I make photographs with the aim to arrest the viewer in their glance, encouraging them to slow down and reach beyond a superficial or purely graphic interpretation, and delve deeper in their introspection. |
