Welded Metal Sculptures
I have been making and showing three-dimensional art since the late 1970s. This comes as something of a surprise as I was destined for law school during my undergraduate days at the University of Oregon. It wasnt to be as I left school looking for something outside my previous experience. What was found was a job to keep body and soul together working and eventually becoming apprenticed to a prominent sculptor in Portland, OR. I spent several years at this before deciding I could do it by and for myself.
Over the years I have shown my work nationally in various juried shows and galleries. I currently am represented in Hawaii by 3rd Dimension Gallery on the big island and by Causey Contemporary Arts in Williamsburg, NY. I also represent myself through my own studio and electronically on the web.
Although the art world has been relatively good to me in publicity and representation, it has never been financially rewarding. To that end I have a second career as a registered nurse. I currently work in the emergency department at North Colorado Medical Center to pay the bills and keep the studio open.
My work has been satisfying both in the art world and in medicine. It has indeed been a long, strange trip and I would change none of it.
